In the early ‘80s, the closet industry was littered with many small, fledgling companies. The engineering background of Closet Factory founder John LaBarbera, provided him with the critical knowledge required to avoid the precarious wall-hung systems that others provided, and to instead, develop a structurally sound floor-based system.
That crucial and fundamental decision would not only provide our clients with the unique ability to adjust the system to their own needs, but it became the foundation for the changes that revolutionized the closet industry. On February 9, 1983, Closet Factory opened its first location in California and provided people with custom closets, offices, entertainment centers, garage systems, pantries, bookshelves, and more.
The key word is more. More, because everyone in our company is focused on you and your needs. More, because everyone here is dedicated to delivering exactly the product you want. More, because since the beginning, our belief and philosophy has been to provide you with the shopping experience you deserve.
Our number one goal is to design a system that you will love.We accomplish this by listening to you carefully and involving you in every step of the design process. We believe that every unit we make is as unique as the person who owns it.
No wonder so many of our clients refer us to their families and friends while continuing to use us for other projects themselves. And we don’t stop there. While other companies try to imitate the original, we will never stop advancing and expanding our product lines and the services that we offer.
Today we are nationally recognized as a leader in custom organizational storage system style. We have said it before and we’ll say it again:
“No one puts more into your closets than we do.”
Whether you want the clean look of a classic, all white, melamine design or a traditional look created with real wood stained to match the other furniture in your home, Closet Factory will give you the look you want. We’ll also provide the quality and craftsmanship necessary for your design to last for years to come.

The Adult Students in Scholastic Transition (ASIST) award is sponsored annually by EWI, a non-profit international association that has been a champion of education and community involvement since 1938. The ASIST award is a flexible scholarship program that addresses the needs of adults who are working to improve their situation in life through education. The ASIST program benefits students who, for a variety of reasons, are facing work/life challenges. The applicants are either single parents, individuals just entering the workforce or displaced workers.
How it Works
Local chapters of EWI work with educational providers and social service agencies to identify potential candidates. Selection criteria include financial need; socially, physically, and/or economically disadvantaged adults; displaced homemakers; and heads of households with small children. The applicants compete at the chapter level with the opportunity to advance to compete at the corporate level.
Facts
Local Chapters of EWI partner with educational providers and social services agencies to identify potential ASIST candidates. Students first apply and compete at the local Chapter level. Chapter-level winners are submitted to the corporate level for the opportunity to be selected for one of several scholarships ranging from $2,000 to $10,000. For 2022, the Corporate Board approved and awarded a total of $15,000 in additional scholarships.
The ASIST award is available for socially, physically and/or economically disadvantaged adults, displaced homemakers, and/or heads-of-household who are responsible for small children or disabled or elderly adults. This need-based award can be used for tuition or other education-related expenses.
EWI of Richmond generously supports the Corporate Program by providing up to three $2,500 Scholarships to successful candidates.
Last year local EWI chapters and Corporate ASIST scholarships awarded over $250,000 in educational scholarships.

Closet Factory
/in Active Member FirmsIn the early ‘80s, the closet industry was littered with many small, fledgling companies.

EWI Scholarship Program
/in ScholarshipsThe EWI Scholarship Program (EWISP) is an annual, competition-based program which awards college scholarship money to qualifying high school seniors.
Students are nominated by their schools to participate in the scholarship competition. Judges select winning students based on their scholastic achievement, leadership qualities, good citizenship and extra-curricular activities.
High school seniors first apply for EWISP and then compete at the local Chapter level where award levels vary. Chapter level winners are submitted to the Corporate level for a chance to win one of multiple scholarships when offered at the discretion of the Corporate Board ranging between $1,000 and $4,000. For 2022, the Corporate Board will be awarding five $1,000 scholarships.
